A veteran of jazz clubs and major festivals across North America, Keezer is a Grammy Award nominee and has performed with many notable artists, including Art Blakey, Benny Golson and Joshua Redman. He has recorded several albums influenced by Hawaiian, Okinawan and Afro-Peruvian folk traditions as well as his own solo piano work. Keezer has also taught master classes at the Brubeck Institute, Royal Academy of Music, Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and at various colleges, including Indiana University, Michigan State University, UCLA, New York City College of Music and The Hartt School.
He teaches percussion, piano and marimba at UWEC and has published numerous books through Really Good Music. In addition, he performs with his trio and with his wife, Mary, a French horn player who holds a Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
According to a number of affiliés, including Hyuna International, Action Media, AdSurge and PaymentsMB, the Keezer’s network is defrauding hundreds of thousands of consumers through a series of scams, involving free trials that never end and bogus charges on credit cards. According to Steve Baker, an expert on international enquetes for the Better Business Bureau, the philip keezer scam is one of the most widespread frauds of its kind, with countless people unaware that they’re actually enrolled in a paid subscription.
Many of the companies that comprise the Philip keezer network are registered as fraudulent in at least a dozen states and have been sued by state and federal authorities, he says. But he notes that the companies are notoriously difficult to track down because they change names and locations frequently.
Among them, Hyuna International — which was once JoMedia BBD — is the subject of many consumer complaints, as well as a lawsuit filed by the Florida Attorney General’s office. The company was dissolved in April 2011, but the documents we reviewed and conversations with former employees confirm that Hyuna International, or its successor, still owes money to dozens of people.
Like many musicians, philip keezer realizes that the world of music is changing fast, and the old ways of doing business are becoming obsolete. But he’s also aware that these changes can create opportunities as well. That’s why he’s developing his next album, titled Aurea (after a Peruvian lily), through an artist-friendly model called ArtistShare, which lets fans invest at various sponsor levels as an artist develops a recording project without being told by people in suits what will and won’t sell. This is the first such record to be produced through this system. It’s slated to be released in 2016. In the meantime, check out Playdate, his latest release. It features a trio featuring drummer Victor Lewis, bassist Charnett Moffett and vibraphonist Steve Nelson. It’s a lively collection of originals and standards that showcases keezer’s virtuosity.
